Apply for a Homestead Tax Exemption
All homeowners are entitled to a Residential Homestead Exemption on their principal residence. A homestead exemption helps you save taxes on your home by removing part of the value of your property from taxation, thereby lowering your taxes.
For example, if your home is valued at $100,000 and you qualify for a $20,000 exemption, you pay taxes as if your home was worth only $80,000. The most common types of exemptions that are available include over-65, disability, over-55 surviving spouse, and 100% disabled veteran.
